Xiaomi Mi 4i MIUI v6.5.5.0 Update Rollout Begins, Claims to Fix Overheating Issues

Xiaomi, as expected, has started rolling out the latest OTA (over-the-air) system update of MIUI v6.5.5.0 for Mi 4i users. The system update for the Xiaomi Mi 4i is claimed to bring a fix for overheating issues that were reported by users under strenuous conditions.
Announcing the OTA update rollout for the Mi 4i, Hugo Barra, Xiaomi's Vice President of International Operations in a Facebook post late Monday night revealed that this was the first major update for the Mi 4i since the handset's launch last month, and it incorporated feedback from early Mi 4i users. The OTA update also brings a number of bug fixes and optimisations.
Barra on his Facebook post said, "We've heard from some Mi 4i users that their devices can get warm under more strenuous conditions such as complex 3D gaming for extended periods of time. To address these concerns, we've optimised our thermal control algorithms to better regulate the temperature. The new thermal controls adjust frequency, voltage and the number of cores in use depending on the chipset temperature."
He went on to claim that in the internal testing and pre-OTA release in the MIUI forum and beta testers, the company saw reduced overall device temperature without affecting performance. Barra also confirmed confirmed that an earlier OTA releasev6.5.4.0 for the Mi 4i was paused last week after some users reported minor issue related to the power button.
Priced at Rs.12,999, the Xiaomi Mi 4i was launched last month amidst much fanfare in India. It features a 5-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) OGS Corning Concore IPS display; 441ppi; MIUI 6 based on Android 5.0 Lollipop; a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor; Adreno 405 GPU; 2GB of RAM; 13-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and dual-tone flash; 5-megapixel front-facing camera; 16GB of inbuilt storage, with no expansion slot, and a 3120mAh battery.
